We chose Spanish goats because they are a strong, fertile and parasite-resistant goat with incredible maternal instincts. Within minutes of kidding our nannies have their kids cleaned, standing and nursing.
Spanish goats are polyestrous (having more than one period of estrus in a year) and have a gestation period of about 155 days. This allows you to achieve 3 kidding seasons in a 2-year period (we currently restrict to 1 kidding season in February of each year).
Nannies will typically have twins or triplets while it is common for a yearling doe to have a single. Kids are generally 7 to 9 pounds at birth with a strong suck instinct for nursing. They barely hit the ground and their attempting to stand and start searching for the teats.

Until the Spanish Goat Association began preserving the true Spanish goat gene in August of 2007, any goat that wasn’t a registered breed was considered a briar, brush or Spanish goat.
